Winy Wilberforce
is probably my oldest character, dating from around 1981. He's certainly
the most versatile and seems to withstand any drastic reinvention I
throw at him, adapting to any situation or story idea with protean changes.
He moved from short humourous slapstick stories, to longer Carl Barks
/ Herge-influenced adventures, then into mystical realms of symbolism,
in stories packed with religious and alchemical symbolism. A planned
sequel to Voice of the Wilberforce will
be called Windy's Alchemical Days and is still work in progress.
His companion Harry Excess the fishmonger / fishman made his first published
appearance in the Ocean Lands story, although he existed before
that. Early Wilberforce one-pagers from 1981-1982 are very crude drawings
and probably will not be publicly shown.
